Coming Out As Gay Can Have Health Benefits

Huffington Post reports that a new study the Boston University School of Public Health reveals that coming out of the closet can be good for your health if family members are supportive. Two thirds of gay, lesbian, and bisexual adults involved in the research experienced fewer mental health or abuse problems if their coming out was positively supported by their parents. Co-author of the study Emily Rothman, Ph.D said: “The way that parents treat their LGB children when they come out is an important public health topic that has received too little attention to date.”
