The New York Daily News reports that psychiatrist Robert Spitzer has retracted claims backing his 2011 study declaring gay people can reverse sexual orientation. Spitzer’s research has endured criticism, but anti-gay organizations use it as proof that ex-gay therapy can make someone go from gay to straight. Robert Spitzer now wishes to publish a retraction on the study he led. He said: “I have to admit I think the critiques are largely correct.” Spitzer’s paper stated the ex-gay therapy worked “for a highly select group of motivated individuals.”
