Christmas always brings a big smile to my face and joy to my heart. Of course Diwali is also very special, but it’s more with close friends and family. Christmas, on the other hand brings together some of my favourite activities like eating out, shopping, gift wrapping and cooking (not that I get around kitchen much nowadays). Working at the end of Orchard road belt (near Tanglin Mall) gives me a nice preview of how Orchard road will look like after the light up.
Orchard Road is famous in bringing a particular theme into life with props, figurines, lights and effect. This year the theme is titled “Christmas on A Great Street,” it is hoped that the Yuletide traditions will bring out the nostalgic charms of Christmas on Orchard Road from Saturday 17 November 2012 to Sunday 6 January 2013.
The street will be splashed with specially produced figurines – the Tree for Joy, the Heart to represent Love and Dove for Peace. What’s extra special this year is you can purchase these specially produced merchandise and take it home (or back to your country). Other attractions includes Orchard Road’s annual Best Dressed Building contest and of course the Switch-on Ceromony on November 17, to be officiated by Singapore’s President Dr. Tony Tan at ION Orchard.
I will try to get some pictures from Orchard Road soon. Now let me share some from past year celebration. Do leave a comment with your stories around Christmas and Orchard Road.
